REHABILITATION
Cardiac Rehabilitation

If you or anyone you know has had a cardiac event (eg coronary artery bypass graft, CABG / primary percutaneous coronary intervention PPCI ) you may have come across Cardiac Rehabilitation services. This is something that is delivered via a multi-disciplinary team approach via the NHS including cardiac specialist nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, exercise professionals and occupational therapists.
I trained and qualified in the specialist area of Cardiac Rehabilitation in 2017 and am the Lead Cardiac Rehabilitation Instructor for Harrogate Borough Council. I work with the Harrogate District Hospital Cardiac Rehab Nursing Team, co-ordinating all aspects of community service delivery and patient assessments along with teaching exercise classes.
I assess all referred cardiac patients to join the HBC Cardiac Rehab programme. This involves undertaking blood pressure checks, walk shuttle tests and calculating specific heart rate training zones following BACPR protocol to ensure all patients have a safe and effective exercise experience under my professional care and guidance.

BACPR EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR NETWORK COMMITTEE

I am very proud and honoured to be a committee member of the British Association For Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Exercise Instructor Network (EIN).
The committee supports new and existing BACPR Exercise instructors through improving networking and communication, acting as a resource for information, professional guidance and advice and creating ongoing professional development opportunities for BACPR Instructors nationwide.
Arthritis ESCAPE Pain Programmes

You may know how painful osteoarthritis (OA) or chronic joint pain can be. Improving your physical function and understanding how to manage the condition can have a big impact on increasing quality of life.
I am a qualified and trained ESCAPE PAIN Instructor. ESCAPE Pain stands for Enabling Self-Management and Coping with Arthritic Pain through Exercise. In Harrogate, I am involved in delivering a 6-week rehabilitation course, which involves attendance twice a week for a 45 minute exercise class followed by an educational talk and discussion. It is particularly helpful for those with knee and or hip OA. A great programme to access if you are pre/post hip or knee surgery.
Escape Pain is endorsed and supported by: NICE, British Society of Rheumatology, Royal Society of Public Health, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Arthritis Research UK, and the AHSN Network.
Courses run throughout the year in Harrogate supported by North Yorkshire Sport.
Classes are now available online on ZOOM.
